Bread
Baking Ministry: Scheduled bread bakers supply
altar bread for the Sunday Eucharist from a time-tested
recipe for a one-month rotating period.
Acolytes: Acolytes (ages 12 and up)
serve at the altar and carry in the cross during Sunday
worship.
Altar Guild: Members of Altar Guild set
up the altar for Sunday services as well as for special
holiday services, funerals, and weddings. Four teams of
four to five members rotate weekly.
Arts & Drama: Members of this
ministry add drama, dance or visual punctuation to Sunday
worship or put on special productions during the year.
Lectors: Scheduled lectors read the
scripture lessons at Sunday services. They will receive
their readings early in the week so they may practice,
absorb, and pray about the words they will read to the
congregation.
Chalice Bearers: Trained and scheduled
chalice bearers assist with the administration of
communion at Sunday services as well as lighting the
candles, carrying the cross in procession, handling the
offering plates, and occasionally filling in as lectors.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors: Trained and
scheduled lay ministers bring communion, a short service
and news to long-time Messiah members who can no longer
attend regular services following the 9:00 AM Sunday
worship service.
Prayers of the People: Scheduled
parishoners lead the congregation in prayer following
printed forms and incorporating special needs and
petitions.
Preaching: The Rector preaches the
Sunday sermon and occasionally asks guest priests or
others to preach in his stead. Click here for our sermon
archives.
Worship Committee: Oversees seasonal
planning and support for regular and special worship
services.
