Messiah’s Annual Meeting is cancelled for tonight, Monday, January 22, 2018 because of the storm. It will be held on Monday evening, January 29, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Youth Loft. It is a time to review the year past and to hear hopes for the coming year. The Financial Statement for 2017 will be examined in order to be accepted and the Budget for 2018 will be presented. Wardens and Vestry will be elected for the coming year. The Vestry presents a slate of candidates for election. (At its November 2017 meeting, Messiah’s Vestry approved the following slate of candidates to be presented at the Annual Meeting – for Deputy Warden Susan Heil, for 3-year-Vestry terms Janice Dames, Steve Erickson, David Nelson, and Suzanne Wiebusch.) If there are to be nominations from the floor, the names of the nominees must be filed with the church office seven days prior to the Annual Meeting.
Messiah’s current Vestry includes: Anne Towner (retiring), Senior Warden; Gayle Miels, Junior Warden; Jim Olive, Deputy Warden; retiring as of the annual meeting – Denise Deen, John Gappa, and Mary Lou Henneman; continuing with service – Rebecca Everman, Kathy Hoffman, Saw LuLu, Paul Rudd, Jessica Bronston, Dick Guiton, Greg Marsh, and Maggie McKnight. The rector chairs the Vestry and the administrator is an ex-officio member.
At its December Vestry meeting Messiah’s Vestry heard from Jim Olive that he would be resigning his position as of the Annual Meeting because of work pressures and family obligations. (Read his letter Jim Olive resignation 2017.) The Nominations Committee met that night and agreed to ask Dick Guiton to be the nominee for the remainder of Jim’s term – so Junior Warden for this year and Senior Warden for the following year. Dick agreed to be on the slate of nominees and the Vestry agreed to his addition on Sunday, January 7, 2018 Because Dick’s Vestry position would now be vacant the Nominations Committee asked Mary Arnold to be the nominee for the remainder of Dick’s Vestry position. Mary agreed to be on the slate of nominees and the Vestry agreed to her addition to the slate on Sunday, January 7, 2018.
